Major improvements in storage are being anticipated this new year! Are you as excited as we are? 

Digital storage plays a crucial role in our technological civilization. We begin to depend more and more on storage as we continue to advance in our digital sophistication. And as our storage development continues to grow, its impact on us becomes greater as well.

With the digital advancement awaiting 2017, here are some of the storage improvements we can only expect.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Worry not. We’re not going overboard and talk about the robots who would take over the world as featured in a sci-fi movie.

AI such as the applications we use today to interpret a grainy surveillance video or a blurred face and the voice interfaced applications such as Amazon Echo, to name a few, will make way for a more valuable stored data.

We can all expect that the scientific field will discover even more ways imaginable to produce mechanical intelligence to generate value from stored data.

NVRAM

Non-volatile RAM or NVRAM are expected to be released in notebooks this year. We will see the first NVRAM notebooks used in conjunction with standard RAM to expand their main memory – dubbed as the storage class memory (SCM).

Intel is scheduled to produce the first mainstream NVRAM products this 2017 in which, we hope, will be faster and more durable.

CLOUD SERVICES

If you think cloud services are already competitive the previous year, expect more this 2017. Microsoft, Google, and IBM’s competition will continue to work their edge and advantages against Amazon’s current lead.

Amazon’s start proved a dominance of Iaas (Infrastructure as a Service) which continued to lead over the following products. But the three large, profitable competitors are ready to set foot on overcoming Amazon Web Services’ throne with Google’s brainpower, Microsoft’s desktop and research footprint, and IBM’s enterprise stronghold.

And instead of grieving, the market continues to prosper as we improve our cloud services in ways we could only imagine.

As we see it, 2017 wouldn’t be easy for everyone in the industry – storage companies without the capability to quickly adapt technological changes and compete with the market may be on the verge of being laid off.

But for the rest of us who depend on managed storage, major improvements are to be expected.
